Welcome. So glad you found this website!
Dr. Laurie Olson opened an office to serve children, parents and schools in the greater New Orleans area. She offers therapy to children as well as support and consultation to parents. Psychological evaluations are available in her areas of expertise. Services for schools include consultation with individual teachers and professional development.
Dr. Olson earned her doctorate in psychology from Tulane University in 1988 and became a licensed psychologist in 1991. She is a nationally certified and state certified school psychologist. Throughout her career she has been concerned about the well-being of children, particularly those with adjustment problems or developmental disabilities. She has recent, specialized training and experience in early childhood intervention, positive child discipline and supports for children with autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Olson decided to become a psychologist while spending her summers in high school as a volunteer in an orphanage in Honduras, CA. The children were well cared for; still they suffered emotionally from the loss of their parents in the warm, family-centered culture of Honduras. She thought that a psychologist had the most to offer those captivating, precious children so she decided to become a psychologist.
Presently Dr. Olson sees clients at her office in Metairie. She also has contracts with several local service-oriented organizations. One is the Suns Center, a non-profit operating under the School Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans. The Suns Center assists public schools in implementing programs and services for students with disabilities. Dr. Olson is also a service provider for Early Steps, Louisiana’s early intervention program for infants and toddlers with developmental delays. She also provides positive behavior support for children with developmental disabilities with the Jefferson Parish Human Service Authority under the Louisiana Division of Health and Hospitals.
